RazorSharks win fifth PBL title to end perfect season - Mar 29, 2015
The Rochester RazorSharks hoisted the PBL Championship Trophy in front of a huge crowd of 6,109 fans in attendance at the Blue Cross Arena after a 135-118 victory over the Lake Michigan Admirals. After sweeping the best-of-three series, the RazorSharks finished the season a perfect 17-0. Saturday was a fitting end to Rochester's 10th anniversary season, as they have now been crowned Champions five times in ten years. Guards Jerice Crouch (6'0''-PG-84, college: Chattanooga) and Corey Allmond (6'2''-G-88, college: Sam Houston St.) were named CO-MVP's of the playoffs, after lighting up the stat sheet once again. It was a nice finish for the two who have dubbed themselves "the best backcourt duo in the league". After scoring 30 points in Game 1, Allmond added 16 points in game 2. Crouch, who had 14 points and 10 assists in Game 1, went crazy in Game 2 by finishing with 32 points and 9 assists. Crouch's 32 points were just 2 shy of his RazorShark's career high. The story of Saturday's game was Rochester's ability to feed off of different teammates throughout the game, as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters were fueled by different players. The 1st quarter was taken over by Gabe Freeman (6'6''-F-85, college: Costa Mesa JC), who scored 19 points in the opening frame alone. The 2nd quarter belonged to Corey Allmond who scored 11 points in just over 2:00 minutes of play on his way to 13 in that quarter. Finally, it was Crouch who exploded for 16 points in the 3rd quarter to energize a RazorSharks team who was allowing the Admirals to stick around. The RazorSharks faced their toughest test of the season in Game 2, as Lake Michigan played the best basketball Rochester has faced. Rochester held a six-point lead at halftime, but saw themselves tied with the Admirals for much of the first half. The third quarter was an exhilarating back-and-forth battle that ended with the RazorSharks holding onto a slim six-point lead. It was a 43-point quarter in the fourth that helped Rochester cruise to victory in the final minutes of play. Lake Michigan was led by six different players in double-digit figures. Troy Franklin (6'0''-PG-89, college: Coppin St.) Jr. showed off his unlimited range, by adding 23 points with 4 three pointers. The front court of Nate Barfield and Nick Waddell (6'7''-C, college: Grand Valley St.) combined for an impressive 37 points and 22 rebounds. Thank you Rochester for another incredible season, as this year's perfect run was fueled by your loyalty and enthusiasm. We lift the 2015 Championship trophy in your honor and are excited to defend our title next season. Stay tuned for news and announcements regarding the RazorSharks postseason. Courtesy of: thepbl.com
